I know they didn't have to, but it was really disappointing to get to their page and find out it was no longer free. On the other hand, it was exciting every time I got to a page that was still keeping it free. Thanks for the Hop and the Giveaway. I loved the material that I did get today. cwhaccenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00095502102037908183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129006653234939633.post-72030962856161087732015-01-10T23:59:01.916-05:002015-01-10T23:59:01.916-05:00Sorry you missed the freebies. We get many kids with special needs since I taught them for 28 years. I am always looking for ideas for all grade levels, and it seems that vocabulary is always a weak area for all ages. Reading comprehension is always one to keep working on, and I love the new authors that focus on looking for answers in the text. Most of my kids would rather just guess rather than go back and actually look for the answer. Many of my younger students need to continue working on fluency, and I love all of the materials that are focusing on that. Anyway, I love your site as it offers so many different types of help. I missed most of your blog hop, but got in on a few of them. When you get attached to the kids you teach and watch them struggle through the state assessment only to get a failing score, it is so defeating. In fact, it truly makes me nauseous to test them because there is so much pressure. As a group, I will brainstorm with the others on what has been successful to help their kids feel confident to "get back up on the horse."Carla https://www.blogger.com/profile/03023514209939204277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129006653234939633.post-46423325837828953802015-01-07T23:02:56.538-05:002015-01-07T23:02:56.538-05:00We need a HS reading specialist to add to our blog...We need a HS reading specialist to add to our blogging team. Unfortunately, we're all elementary and middle school. However, many of us are certified through 12th. Many of the strategies we share for the upper elementary student are applicable in HS too. I've been using Close Reading a lot with my 4/5 groups, and I know it is a great strategy for HS too. I tell my students that this skill is going to be taken all the way through college. If you follow any HS blogs that are written by HS reading specialists, let us know.<br />CarlaCarla https://www.blogger.com/profile/03023514209939204277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129006653234939633.post-34078343089521033862015-01-07T22:58:37.138-05:002015-01-07T22:58:37.138-05:00Well, we can certainly help you with guided readin...Well, we can certainly help you with guided reading, but you'll have to find a math blog for math centers sad to say. Guided reading is the heart and soul of a strong reading program. It is another word for your small group instruction. Many teachers organize their reading blocks around their small group time. Perhaps scheduling is a good starting point and we'll go from there.
